Forrest has recently completed improvements to five high rise blocks in Stockbridge Village in Knowsley for Villages Housing, part of ForViva Group.

Stockbridge Village houses five high rise tower blocks; Whincraig, Mosscraig, Firscraig, Merecliff and Denecliff. Each high-rise has 90 flats, which are currently heated by seven gas boilers that were installed over 25 years ago. In addition to essential service upgrade works (asbestos removal, communal ceilings, decoration, flooring and electric upgrade), we have also installed a £3.4m biomass energy plant. The two biomass energy centres, one 500kW and one 300kW, will burn low-cost, sustainable wood pellets to provide 450 flats in the area with renewable heat and electrical energy. Each flat will see the heating system replaced with individual heat exchange units.

We worked closely with the Client and Rural Energy to undertake a full feasibility study that will provide the optimum solution for the scheme. The installation is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 22,200 tonnes over the system’s lifetime, compared with traditional fossil fuel energy sources.

The project was supported by payments through the Government’s Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) scheme, which will contribute to a return on investment in under four years.
